Wingfest 2008…what a waste…or was it?!?
So our friend Brian told us about the first annual Wingfest that was to be held on Sno Mountain. Since wings are my absolute FAVORITE food, I asked Colin to take me. He was up for it. Saturday afternoon we headed to Sno Mtn. Admission was $10. Onto the first wing booth. 3 wings for $1. Not too bad, considering we pay $6 for 10 wings at the Windsor. We get our wings and they are freezing cold. Granted it was a cold and rainy day, but find a way to keep your wings warm! No line at all for this booth, and we now know why!
As per the flyer, we were supposed to receive 7 free samples of beer (this was included in the price of admission.) We headed over to the beer tent and sure enough, they say only 4 free samples. Well, ok, better than none. We head to Mr. Sample Man and sure enough, “We are out of beer!” ”WHAT?!? YOU ARE OUT OF BEER?” Now keep in mind said wingfest was supposed to take place from 2-7pm. It was about 4pm at this time. We were NOT happy campers. And I am sure that late comers were mad too. So far, we have paid $10 to enter the place. And we paid for wings. And no free beer. Yipee.
We ended up going inside to get a little warmer and we just ordered beer at the bar. And of course paid for them. After talking to some friends for a bit, and were told what wing booths to hit, we went back out. Second booth, Kellys, again, 3 for $1 but this time we got free blue cheese and celery. (At the first booth, they charged us .50 for blue cheese) YAY! Finally something for free. These wings were pretty good. Not my fav, but good. They were crispy and tasted good for their hot flavor. By now, it’s starting to rain pretty hard.
Vader. One of the hottest wings I have ever had. After Chris almost threw up from this, I had to give it a go. I thought he was being a baby, but he was not. Holy cow. Not even enjoyable. I thought I would never taste again. My lips were beyond flaming even after an entire bottle of water! Yuck. At this same booth, we had three other flavors that were superb. Colin got all of his wings here Hawaiian flavored. They were reallllly good. Time to leave. It’s pouring rain and no sense in tasting anymore. Two of us were left with no taste buds.
So I thought the day was a waste until I BEGGED Colin to let me stop to use the bathroom before leaving the area. He hates to stop for me! After coming out of the bathroom, Chris showed me one of the most awesomest sections in the Exxon. Sunflower seed extravaganza! Holy cow. I didn’t even know they made half of these flavors. I had to purchase them to try them out. Here’s what we got.
Yes, you are reading those bags correctly. From left: Dill Pickle, Nacho Cheese, BBQ, and Jalapeno Hot Salsa.
Dill Pickle: I absolutely LOVE dill pickles so I thought I was in for a real treat here. WRONG! I’d rather my pickle in a crispy juicy form. Gross.
Nacho Cheese: Not horrible, but definitely not good. A bit too cheesy.
BBQ: The best out of these four flavors. But still not great.
Jalapeno Hot Salsa: Eek. I did not enjoy these. It might be because we just ate a Vader wing a few minutes prior, but the taste of these did not sit well with me. I will have to give them another shot another day.
Original and Ranch are still my favorite and I will stick to those. Have you seen any different flavored Sunflower Seeds? If so, what flavor and did you enjoy them? I am going to make that my mission every time I go into a convenient store. If you see any different flavors than these listed, buy them for me and send them to me. I’ll pay you back
So overall, the Wingfest needs to be better managed. I had a great time with friends regardless, so even though we are out a few bucks, it was still fun to experience. And besides, if we didn’t go, Chris wouldn’t have found such an awesome selection of sunflower seeds! ;)
